Caring for your Lingerie: Storing

Caring For Your Lingerie – Part Two
As mentioned in a previous posting, lingerie can last for years if you just know how to take care of it; this includes laundering, storing, as well as a couple of other hints that can get you the most out of your delicates. Let’s talk about the second one.
“Storing”
The ideal situation for your lingerie is a drawer separate from other clothing items. With bras, corsets or anything with molded padding or boning, they need lots of room to retain their shape.
We have come far from high school where we just shoved everything into the same drawers without folding them! Now an organizing solution like drawer dividers or boxes that you can stack your bras into make much more sense. Watch out for any rough spots that your dresser may have so you don’t snag your pretty lingerie and keep them out of the sun as much as possible so that their colors will not fade.
Remember that each item should have any clasps, buttons or zippers fastened because who knows what will happen when you’re late for a date and snatching your things out of your “perfectly organized lingerie drawer.” Right?
If the time comes when you need a traveling lingerie solution, have no fear. Just lay your corsets or bustiers flat and protect them from suitcase zippers and cosmetics by covering them, a dry cleaning bag will do. Also, try the “BraBag” and the “PantyPak” , they keep the shape of your bras and panties during traveling, as well as being an adorable addition to your traveling set.

Back in the days that women had elegant boudoirs, there were some sexy options for storing your pretty things. If you wish to revive the feeling of old fashioned glamour in your room check into vintage dressers, vanities, or armoires. There are also places that make reproductions, if you’re looking for a more cost effective option.
OR go all out and fashion yourself a personal boudoir set with fancy mirrors, a fainting couch, and a feathery robe to read in! Well, maybe we’re getting a little carried away here…

Caring for Your Lingerie: Laundering

Caring For Your Lingerie – Part One
Lingerie can last for years if you just know how to take care of it. Laundering, storing, and a couple of other hints that you may not have known will get you more use out of your delicates. Let’s talk about the first one.
“Laundering”
Hand washing your lingerie is always best, but if you don’t have time it’s ok to have them dry cleaned. Also, check your washer; it may have a “delicate” setting that is gentle enough. Although when I tried it with my washer, the items came out sopping wet (because the washer skips the spin cycle, leaving the water sitting in your clothing). I prefer hand washing because I can just leave them sitting in lukewarm soapy water for ten or fifteen minutes, clean them, and then rinse clean. Wringing out your lingerie (especially bras) will usually ruin the shape and strain the fabric, so if you are in a hurry, try a blow dryer! Also a good trick is to roll the item in a dry towel and press down lightly. “Line drying” or air drying is recommended the most, as a dryer can ruin the shape and sometimes the fabric of your items. Never dry your bra that is the biggest DON’T!
If the washing machine is your choice, check out our laundry bags from “Forever New” on our website.
You can put your lingerie inside of them and it protects them from the other fabrics in the wash. Try to always use the cold or warm setting to retain the colors and quality of the fabrics. And always do up all of your clasps, buttons or zippers before washing so they don’t snag or damage your fabrics.
For laundry soap try the delicate wash from “Forever New“.
It is very gentle, it’s hypoallergenic, and organically made, plus it smells delightful. You can also use mild hand soap or shampoo if you are in a pinch.
Check the items care label for special instructions on laundering. The manufacturer always knows best!
If wrinkles occur, and you must iron, do so on the steam setting without touching the item.
